“Roma”, the Mexican director's latest film,
will be the centerpiece of the New York Film Festival.
On Wednesday , the Film Society of Lincoln Center announced that the film will be played in the Alice Tully Hall on October 5, during the festival 56th edition.

said that “I am honored ‘Roma’ has been selected for the centerpiece slot at this year’s New York Film Festival” , and that he f elt that “the right thing to do was to come back to the Festival with “Roma”, an incredibly personal, illuminating and transformative project for me”.
It's the first movie the Oscar winne r has filmed in Mexico in over 15 years . It was filmed in black and white , with an innovative sound design . It's loosely based on his early childhood in Mexico City during the 70s , in a middle-class family, with the nanny-housekeeper, played by Yalitza Aparicio, at the center.
Kent Jones, the festival director and president of the committee
, highlighted the “physical power and the gravitational strength of the images” of the film .
“ Roma ”, produced by Esperanto Filmoj and Participant Media, will be released worldwide through Netflix and in movie theaters later this year.
The New York Film Festival will run September 28 through October 14 . The tickets will be available on September 9.
