Congress members refuse to work
On Wednesday, Congress members passed a constitutional reform to extend the ordinary session period for one month. If the reform is approved, the politicians will start working on February 1 and finish on May 31. Nevertheless, this reform was questioned by some congress members, who claim that they won't be more productive just because they will work one month more. For example, before the session ended on Wednesday, the room was empty when it was time to commemorate the Tlatelolco massacre and pay homage to historian and philosopher Miguel León-Portilla.
Revenge against the Electoral Tribunal?
Morena senator Germán Martínez won't have an easy day at the Senate today. We've been told that the commissions will discuss and vote a reform to reduce the time magistrates will occupy the positions at the Electoral Tribunal, this way, they will only occupy the positions for three years. Germán Martínez, is one of the congress members who have promoted this bill, is now seen as a vengeful congressman at the Judiciary after the tribunal ruled that Jaime Bonilla 's government in Baja California will last two years. We've been told that is became clear that Germán M a rtínez's initiative was aimed at the Electoral Trib u nal and was looking to give Bonilla three more years as governor . The Baja California issue is still up in the air.
The Santa Lucía amparos
Yesterday, some ministers weren't able to issue their statements on the suspensions of the construction of the Santa Lucía airport because the conflicting lines of precedent didn't fulfill the necessary requirements to be considered. We've been told that if the ministers have decided to make statements, the over 100 writs of amparo would have been affected somehow. If the ministers voted to argue that it is possible to halt public projects using amparos , the suspension would have been shielded; on the contrary, all the amparos would have been dismissed. Nevertheless, the tribunal that issued the conflicting lines of precedent didn't realize that the cases it analyzed were completely different and therefore, there was no contradiction.
