Temperatures are expected to plunge to 16 degrees below zero Celsius in northern Mexico , whereas the temperature in Mexico City could drop to 5°C , according to the National Weather Service (SMN) .
In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL , the meteorologist Jaime Albarrá explained that there would be low temperatures and rain in most of the Mexican territory. These weather conditions are expected to continue tomorrow.
Albarran stated that these climate conditions are due to a cold wave covering the entire country, which increases the possibility of sleet and snow falling.
In addition to this cold wave, the first winter storm of the year will pass through the north and northeast of Mexico, while the cold front number 10 now located over the Yucatán Peninsula and southeast Mexico, combined with a mass of polar air will keep temperatures low in most of the Mexican territory .
Today, temperatures of between -5 and 0°C are expected in the Chihuahua mountain range, as well as the states of Coahuila, Nuevo León, Durango, and Zacatecas , though in the highlands of these states, temperatures could drop to -16°C.
In Baja California, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Mexico City, Morelos, and Oaxaca, temperatures will drop to between 0 and 5°C
.
The expert pointed out that these climate conditions are “absolutely normal,” since we are entering the annual winter frost season. He also warned that temperatures would continue to drop on November 25, due to the passage of various cold fronts .
