Cinépolis to open movie theaters in Saudi Arabia

Mexico’s movie theater chain Cinepolis will enter the Saudi Arabian market in association with the hotel and entertainment group Al Hokair , in the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as with Al Tayer , in the United Arab Emirates .

In a statement, a Cinepolis spokesman informed that the company had obtained a license to operate cinemas, issued by the General Commission for Audiovisual Media in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , where, during the next five years , it will seek to develop a solid position in the market by setting Luxury, Premium, Macro XE, 4D movie theaters and Junior rooms that are expected to have an impact on more than 30 million moviegoers .

"This great opportunity is based on the vision of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 2030 , which has a program of multifaceted and progressive reforms, led by His Excellency, Prince Mohammed bin Salman . The initiative is aimed at diversifying the economy as the tip of the spear that launches the tendency to become a power in terms of global investments and, therefore, the opportunity for a cultural evolution with the opening of cinemas," it said.

In this regard, the managing director of Cinepolis in Asia and the Middle East, Javier Sotomayor , said that each of the partners have the same mission of providing the best service and experience to customers, so they are excited to be part of this historical transformation in the country.

Currently, Cinepolis has projects in three other countries within the Gulf Peninsula. During the next five years, their presence will grow in the region of the United Arab Emirates, Oman , and Bahrain . The first movie theater within these countries will be inaugurated at the beginning of 2019.
