The is a festival to celebrate the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar . In China, the festival is usually referred to as the Spring Festival .

This Year of the Rat Chinese people celebrate by planting and harvesting , praying to their ancestors, lighting firecrackers , and it also brings families together to celebrate the arrival of spring.

During this special date, Chinese people enjoy delicious dishes such as fish , dumplings , rice balls , spring rolls , and sweet rice cake .

In Mexico , the Chinese New Year will be celebrated with a series of cultural events to mark the “closeness and between the Chinese and Mexican people.” Several cultural events will take place in Mexico City , the State of Mexico , Nayarit , Quintana Roo , Yucatán , Nuevo León , and Chihuahua .

The events will include photography exhibitions , painting exhibitions, concerts , costume contests , a Chinese film festival , among other events.

Here’s a list of the most exciting events to celebrate the :

1. Photographic exhibition

The photographic exhibition will be available from January 15 to February 2 at Reforma avenue

2. Chinese dance and music

You can enjoy Chinese culture at two shows in Mexico City on January 18 and 19.

3. Costume contests

The contest will take place on January 19 at Reforma avenue. There will be dragon and lion dances.

4. Chinese Films

During February, a Chinese film will be screened at the National Museum of the World Cultures on Fridays.

5. Concert

Musicians will present a series of concerts in Mexico City on February 5 and 6.

Besides all these cultural events, Mexico City’s China Town will also offer a series of events to celebrate the Year of the Rat .
