The Spanish construction and infrastructure development company FCC , controlled by Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim , was awarded a contract for the refurbishing of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium , the home stadium of Real Madrid.
Through a press released, the soccer team informed that the FCC would immediately start working on the project while avoiding the interruption of the team’s schedule.
“The implementation of the works will not interfere with the celebration of soccer matches or any of the stadium’s regular activities,” stated Real Madrid through their Twitter account.
“The refurbishing of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium will be completed within 39 months’ time , ending in August 2022 with a four-month extension for the development of the stadium’s surrounding areas,” read the press release.
The contract has an estimated value of € 475 million (USD$532 million) , Spanish newspaper Cinco Días informed earlier this week.
Last month, Real Madrid announced that it had obtained a loan of € 575 million for the financing of their plan to create a “digital stadium for the future.”
