On Saturday , Mexican bread-maker Bimbo announced that it has suspended certain delivery routes in the State of Guerrero , which has gone through a wave of violence in recent years.
To guarantee their employees' safety
, Bimbo was issued a temporary suspension on 9 routes in Acapulco . These routes represent less than 1% of the company's product distribution in Guerrero, said a spokesperson.
After two of their trucks were burned , Bimbo made the decision and later informed the authorities about the attacks.
Acapulco
, once a favorite spot for Hollywood stars , has now sunk into gang violence and has become one of the deadliest cities in the world .
Guerrero
is the main opium poppy producer , and its consequences have taken a toll on the local economy.
In March, Coca-Cola Femsa , the world’s largest Coke bottler , announced that it would cease their operations in a distribution center in Ciudad Altamirano, Guerrero, indefinitely.
Grupo GEPP , PepsiCo’s bottler in Mexico , announced that it would shut down its distribution center in Guerrero temporarily , starting in June.
