“ Ayotzinapa, the Turtle's Pace ,” produced jointly by the recent winner of the Oscar to Best Director, Guillermo del Toro , and TV UNAM , will premiere during this year's edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
With testimonies from the relatives of the 43 missing students of the teacher training college Raúl Burgos, in Ayotzinapa , Guerrero, the documentary features the lack of justice and pain that has surrounded the enforced disappearance of the students, sometime between the night of September 26 and the early morning of September 27 in Iguala, Guerrero.
Bertha Navarro, one of the producers of the documentary – broadcast exclusively by TV UNAM – explained that the idea of the documentary came as a way to “raise awareness” and “give a voice to those who no longer speak about something so painful as the Ayotzinapa case.”
“Guillermo del Toro was very interested since the beginning of the project, which started in 2015 but took all this time in being completed because the idea was to get closer to the [relatives of the victims] and earn their trust so we could get a real testimony of the event,” she said.
The director of the documentary, Enrique García Meza , has worked with Del Toro in several previous projects, such as “Cronos,” “The Devil's Backbone," and "Pan's Labyrinth."
