Anaya, biting more than he can chew

National leader of the conservative National Action Party (PAN), Ricardo Anaya , is trying to bite off more than he can chew, according to the claims of several PAN members who are certain that in Anaya's desperation to bamboozle everyone and deviate attention from personal issues – such as the exact origin of the fortunes of his political family and his own –, the leader is taking the party down with him. One of the main concerns is that Mr. Ricardo is declaring war against the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) over issues that have nothing to do with the party...to the point that some PAN members are also considering bilateral lobbying with the PRI. Moreover, some PAN governors have heard disquieting whispers about reaching the budget discussions with such hostilities in the air. Anaya should really mind his jaw.

Get your clap-o-meter ready because, during the next two days, all the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) candidate nominees will be at the stage and under the spotlight to talk to their party senators. José Antonio Meade, Aurelio Nuño, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong , José Navarro and other PRI officials have been invited to the Senate as guests of coordinator Emilio Gamboa. The Secretaries of Economy and Energy will also be there, as well as the current CEOs of PEMEX and CFE (Federal Electricity Commission). Investment in the energy sector, NAFTA talks with the U.S., education and national finances will surely be the subjects discussed during the event, but it also will an unparallel opportunity for the secretaries to assess the value of each presidential candidate nominee.

The new FAD within the PRI

The members of the left Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) have told us the latest trend within their party is to threaten to switch sides and join the far- left National Regeneration Party (MORENA) instead if they disagree over some of the positions taken by the PRD. We're told some will make good on their threat if the National Council approves next Saturday the integration of the Wide Democratic Front (FAD) with conservative National Action Party (PAN) . We're told that among the movements who are opposed to the FAD are the Democratic National Left under René Bejarano – who is also the leader of the Association National Movement for Hope – and some leaders of the Militant Left, comprised by several gangs who want to join Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Some PRD members are of a mind to actually take them at their words and allow them to leave, as they are merely bluffing.

Solidarity with the U.S.

The Governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, has proved to be the better man between him and his counterpart, Texan Greg Abbott . Despite the American official hasn't been the most accommodating or polite towards Mexican citizens, Mr. Francisco called his neighbor to offer the assistance of his Government to whoever may require it due to the recent damages caused by the hurricane Harvey – which has taken the lives of five people so far and has flooded several towns. Hopefully, Mr. Greg understands the importance of having a good relationship with your neighbors.
