AMLO wants foreign eyes

We're told that the plan of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) of creating an Electoral Advising Council has the ultimate goal of bringing foreign players and international organizations to observe the elections and avoid an electoral fraud this July 1st. We're told that the one in charge of this council is Gabriela Cuevas , who has been tasked with the mission of gathering a group of foreigners to keep an eye on the election process. Thus, Mr. Andrés has begun to profit from his decision to open the doors of his party and give a plurinominal candidacy to the former member of the conservative National Action Party (PAN), since Ms. Gabriela will use all her international contacts to obey the commands of her new supreme leader and have foreign eyes on the 2018 General Election .

Chuchos

don't chicken out

The inside movement of the left Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), the New Left , according to our sources, has had to neutralize the comments of those inside the party who insist on seeing them as a weakened force to prove they haven't chickened out. Our sources claim that whoever doubts of the strength of this movement, known as the Chuchos , has only to take a look at the plurinominal lists of the PRD legislators. They claim that during the negotiations, the New Left pulled its weight and secured two of the first four seats in the Senate, including one for one of their supreme leaders, Jesús Zambrano . In the case of the list for the Lower Chamber, Luis Espinoza Cházaro is solid and has many possibilities to make it to San Lázaro. They claim Mr, Luis, despite those who say otherwise, wrote down his name on time to become a candidate and this candidacy was voted on by the National Council of the PRD.

Senate, does transparency matter?

A race against the clock. Since last February 7th, the appointed president of the National Institute for Transparency and Access to Information and Personal Data Protection (INAI), Francisco Acuña Llamas, requested the president of the Senate, Ernesto Cordero , to announce an open call to appoint the replacement of commissioners Areli Cano and Ximena Puente, who conclude their service this March 31st. The Upper Chamber doesn't seem to be in a rush to appoint them but above all, there seems to be a concern among civil society organizations who don't want to be excluded from this process. The clock is ticking. There are only 27 days left to appoint the new commissioners and the announcement has no date, because tat the Political Coordination Board, the fight – that is, the agenda – is in the distribution of legislative commissions. We've seen that for the Senate corruption is not a priority since there are several pending appointments, such as the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor; now we'll have to see if they care for transparency and decide to fill the ranks of the INAI.

Meade runs in three tracks

Our sources say the members of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) are getting ready to give everything they've got for the presidential campaign, once it launches. We're told that the inclusion of PRI members with lineage will allow José Antonio Meade to have three campaigns at the same time for this July 1st. On one hand, Manlio Fabio Beltrones , former national leader of the PRI, will be in charge of a national campaign parallel to that of Meade, in order to shore votes for the Lower Chamber, together with the coordinators of the five constituencies. Meanwhile, former Minister of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong , will lead the national campaign for the Senate. With his own campaign, Meade will run the race on three tracks to try and turn the polls in his favor. Moreover, our sources say that Meade's wife, Juana Cuevas , will also be playing a key role in the campaign to attract more voters.
