AMLO tries to bring opposing poles together
Today, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is set to meet with all the trade unions in order to celebrate International Workers' Day. We've been told that the challenge is to see if the President can get two opposing poles to sit on the same table after trade unions linked to Morena are fighting to destroy the Mexican Workers Confederation (CTM ), which was always been linked to the PRI . It'll be interesting to see if President López Obrador can sit on the same table with the SNTE, CNTE, UNT, CTM, and the new trade unions .
Did the PAN candidate to Puebla lie?
Enrique Cárdenas
, the PAN-MC-PRD candidate to Puebla , is in trouble. We've been told that he didn't file the necessary paperwork to retire as a Conacyt researcher and he's been cashing MXN $38,000 per month . His rivals say that although the amount might not be stratospheric, it has exposed him and questions his claims of absolute honesty and the authenticity of his discourse but it also complicates his mission to win more votes just one month away from the elections , since Miguel Barbosa seems to be the favorite. Also, if it is confirmed that Cárdenas received payments from the Conacyt when he already was the official candidate , the matter might reach the tribunals .
Lawmakers skip work
Although yesterday was the last day to approve reforms in the lower chamber , 61 lawmakers didn't care about attending work to vote the 10 bills that were discussed. Many of them will have a long “ vacation ”, since the next ordinary period begins on September 1 , although they have to attend extraordinary sessions in case they have pending bills to pass. Meanwhile, 61 lawmakers are already on vacation .
Failed promotion strategy
The mayor of Mazatlán, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres , from Morena , spent around MXN $100,000 for a gastronomic show at the lower chamber . Although the local government spent a lot of money, the famous band El Recodo didn't even play at the legislative venue for “security reasons.” So everything indicates that all the money spent on promoting the city will be useless and didn't do much to promote it.
