Alejandro González Iñárritu receives honorary doctorate from UNAM

The filmmaker was recognized for his contributions to art by Mexico’s highest house of studies

Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu

is used to direct and being related to great actors and filmmakers of Hollywood and the world, but great academic minds still make him nervous.

This Thursday, “El Negro” received from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) the Honoris Causa 2019 distinction for his merits and contributions to arts and sciences.

During the ceremony, that took place at UNAM’s Nezhualcóyotl Hall, González Iñárritu was recognized along with outstanding figures of different fields of science, such as Mathematics, Law, Economy, Medicine, Physics, Environment, and Astronomy.

The filmmaker paid the utmost attention to the other laureates , whom he applauded when they were presented the distinctions that accredit them as Honoris Causa of Mexico’s highest house of studies.

Iñárritu was the seventh celebrity to receive the recognition during the ceremony, which is done in alphabetical order, and received his distinction from Dr. Enrique Graue Wiechers , UNAM’s rector, and Dr. Leonardo Lomelí Venegas , general secretary of UNAM.

Prior to the ceremony, the attendants were asked for a minute of silence to commemorate the five years of the missing teacher students of Ayotzinapa .
