At only 16 years old , Juan Diego García López has become the first Mexican to win gold at the World Para-taekwondo Championship in Turkey.

The boy from Sinaloa won in the K44 category after defeating Russian Magomedzagir Isaldibirov 8-4 .

This is not the first time that Juan Diego has won a medal. During the 2018 Para-Pan American Championship in Washington, he also won gold .

With these results, Juan Diego García became the world’s number one Para-taekwondo athlete and is now ready to participate at the 2019 Lima Para-Panamericans and the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games .
