About 330 Jewish authors , including Nir Baram, Shimon Adaf, Fania Oz-Salzberger and Xavier Grüell , will participate in the first International Jewish Book Fair in Mexico City , which will be held from August 10 to 20 at the Bella Época Cultural Center of the Economic Culture Fund (FCE).
Based on the conviction that books are capable of generating coexistence and that dialogue can help to confront our violent reality , the Center for Documentation and Jewish Research in Mexico (CDIJUM), under the auspices of FCE, carries out this literary encounter that will have more than one hundred activities, such as the homage to Margo Glantz , and more than 40 book presentations.
Today at a press conference, Rubén Goldberg , president of the CDIJUM, said that this first book fair is a great opportunity to nurture critical thinking with a program of national and international Jewish literature that will establish a dialogue with the past and present of this particular literature which belongs to an ancient culture.
Silvia Hamui Sutton
said that this meeting will be a mosaic of literary and cultural expressions , but at the same time the fair will be "a place for dialogue to know us better."
The fair will present more than 1.370 titles from 174 publishing houses ; they will be exhibited in 163 square meters of the Gallery Cardoza and Aragón of the Bella Época Cultural Center; and the fair will pay tribute to four fundamental Jewish thinkers: Friederich Katz, Stefan Zweig, Clarice Lispector and Primo Levi.
Sara Sefchovich, Arnoldo Kraus, Jean Meyer, Angelina Muñiz-Huberman and Pepe Gordon
will participate in the International Jewish Book Fair and, in addition, Judy Goldman, Amos Oz, Walter Benjamin, Franz Kafka, Isaac Asimov, Sigmund Freud, Hebert Marcuse, Esther Seligson and Zygmunt Bauman will be subjects of discussion.
