Mexico and Uruguay strengthen commercial ties

Luis Videgaray said that Uruguay is a key ally to the country's relations in Latin America

The Uruguayan and Mexican governments will reinforce their relations with the revision of the free trade agreement between both nations and the preparation of a second meeting regarding cooperation against drug dealing and addictions .

After the second Meeting of the Mexico-Uruguay Strategic Partnership Council held in Mexico City, the Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Videgaray Caso , and his Uruguayan counterpart, Rodolfo Nin Novoa , signed the document of the Strategic Council.

In a press conference, Videgaray said that "the issues discussed were many, ranging from the incorporation of new methodologies, tariff managements and, undoubtedly, creating greater opportunities for Mexican and Uruguayan entrepreneurs ."

They also agreed that the second meeting of the Cooperation Committee will be held this year and will be about the fight against drug trafficking and drug dependence.

The Mexican Foreign Minister assured that today's meeting had a positive balance in terms of commercial, political, educative and cultural cooperation.

Uruguay's Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa said that his country and Mexico have the only Mercosur Free Trade Agreement . In addition, he commented that the Uruguayan economy is open to the world, without barriers to work.

He remarked that Uruguay's President, Tabaré Vázquez , is preparing a visit to Mexico in coming months .
