The United States Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer , informed today to Congress that the Trump administration plans to initiate the renegotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) next August 16, with Mexico and Canada.
“The NAFTA negotiation rounds can begin as soon as August 16. We intend to move very quickly,” said in an appearance before the Senate Committee on Finance.
Lighthizer revealed that the Donald Trump administration has received more than 12 thousand public opinions on the NAFTA negotiation objectives and announced that given the high participation there will be 3 days of public hearings on June 27, 28 and 29.
The Trade Representative promised to disclose the specific objectives of the United States for the NAFTA modernization on July 17 .
