General Motors Mexico has become the first car manufacturer in the country to introduce built-in 4G LTE WI-FI connectivity in its vehicles.
As from 2018, 80% of General Motors products will include WI-FI integrated services for up to seven devices.
Ernesto M. Hernández, President and Director General of General Motors Mexico, said that “Connectivity has become an essential part of our lives. As a result, we have included the OnStar 4G LTE technology” in some models of the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac brands.
For his part, Santiago Chamorro, Vice-president of Global Connected Customer Experience at General Motors, noted how the company is “responding to connectivity mega trends”, through the use of the OnStar 4G LTE, “the most reliable and simple mobile connection” available in the market.
The OnStar 4G LTE network connectivity will allow users to have wireless internet access with a range of up to 15 meters away from their cars. Models including this feature, as from 2018, are the Chevrolet Equinox SUV, new generation Spark, Chevrolet Corvette, GMC Acadia SUV, and the Cadillac XT5 Crossover.
Additional benefits of the 4G LTE network include over 800 thousand user interactions and support to emergency incidents as well a the recovery of stolen vehicles.
All listed models will come with a three month or 3GB data package upon purchase, after which users will be able to acquire the connectivity package of their choice, with prices ranging from MXN$69 for 300 MB or seven days of wireless WI-FI access, up to MXN$2,500 for 20 GB or 12 months.
