The state governments of Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatan have pledged to make the Yucatan Peninsula a GMO-free region through the signing of a cooperative pact during the COP13 Global Biodiversity Summit, which will take place in Cancún from December 9 through 11.

The declaration will be made through the states' ministries of environment, said Quintana Roo's Minister of Environment and Forestry, Alfredo Arellano Guillermo.

“We're going to sign a pact with the state governments of Yucatán and Campeche. The pact expresses, among other things, our states' collaboration and dedication on matters such as biodiversity and declaring the Yucatan Peninsula a GMO-free region,” he said.
