Four unidentified men beat Mexican senator and Olympic silver medalist Ana Guevara after a traffic accident on the Mexico-Toluca highway.

The ex-Olympian says she was riding her motorcycle on the highway when a Dodge Voyager van (plate number MMU-84-73) hit her bike.

Guevara says she tried to talk to the driver but suddenly the four men got out of the vehicle and started beating and kicking her.

She was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery due to the wounds to her cheek bone and face.

Ana Guevara is a now-retired track and field athlete who won a silver medal in the 2004 Athens Olympic games.

In 2012, she was elected to Mexico's senate for the Labor Party (PT).

Authorities are reviewing the surveillance videos to release more information about the case.
