Former governor of Sonora Guillermo Padrés, accused of corruption, turned himself in to the authorities on Thursday.

Padrés will face charges of money laundering, tax fraud and embezzlement from his tenure from 2009 to 2015.

After his appearance, the former governor talked in a local radio show to defend himself.

"I'm going to prove i'm innocent. This shows my good faith and willingness to prove it. This sets a precedent." he told Ciro Gómez Leyva.

Guillermo Padrés had an arrest warrant as well as former governor of Veracruz Javier Duarte, who remains at large.
