Walter Torres Zaragoza, treasurer of the city council of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, was shot dead while driving through one of the main streets of this port city, as informed by local police authorities.

The attack took place on Lucio Blanco street in the Ejidal neighborhood this Saturday while the civil servant was driving his Dodge RAM vehicle and received several deadly shots that killed him instantly; his assailants were heavily armed and escaped right after the attack.

Earlier in September, the mayor of this municipality, Armando Carillo Barragán, requested the support of state authorities by “not letting them on their own” against the escalting wave of violence reported in this and other municipalities of Michoacán: “We’ve had not very pleasant experiences of the sort in the past and we would very much like to keep away from going back to them; that is not to say that the Rule of a Law has been lost whatsoever” he noted.
