At the inauguration of the new Nestlé plant, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto told guests that despite the fact that Mexico's annual economic growth isn't where he would like it to be, the economy is expanding at modest pace, inflation is at an all-time low, job growth is positive and families continue to have buying power in the country.
At the event, the President reassured guests that Mexico is a reliable country and said that proof of this is the Swiss company's recent 245 million dollar investment in the new Mexican infant nutrition plant.
He also said that the current economic stability in Mexico is due in part to the structural reforms his administration has passed throughout his term.
“The reason why the economy isn't growing as much as we'd like it to is because of the global economic downturn, so we are happy that Mexico's economy and its internal drive continues to grow,” he said.
Peña Nieto praised the fact that Mexico has secured foreign direct investment (FDI) over the last 4 years of over 120 million dollars, 40% more than the last administration over the same period. He also mentioned that during his administration, 2.3 million jobs have been created and the country is experiencing its lowest inflation rate ever.
