After a powerful 6.5 earthquake hit central Italy early today for over twenty seconds, president Enrique Peña Nieto expressed his sympathy in social media, by using his twitter account to address his Italian counterpart Matteo Renzi, as well as the whole of the Italian people:
“On behalf of the people of Mexico, I express my sympathy with Italy and with his president”.
The latest earthquake in Italy is reported to be the strongest since 1980, according to local media, and had its epicenter between the mountainous regions of Umbria and Marche near the municipalities of Norcia, Castelsantangelo su Nera, Preci and Visso.
Though material losses have been reported, there are no deaths registered so far, however, civil protection authorities have informed that there are “several people injured”, one of them in a critical condition.
