After normalistas burned, at least, 3 vehicles in the Tripetío municipality in Morelia, Michoacán, to demand the release of 8 fellow students who were arrested last August 15, businessmen, civil organizations and various commerce chambers demanded the state government to put a halt to acts of rampage from the students of the Teacher’s College.

The retained 8 students were arrested for robbery, willful deprivation of liberty and attacks to roadways.

In a letter in possession of EL UNIVERSAL, presidents and legal representatives of at least fifty civil society and private organizations, warned that the present situation lived in Michoacán puts governance at risk: “The Rule of Law is being violated and they (normalistas) are keeping different sectors of society hostage, leaving those who work, produce and pay taxes defenseless”.

They condemn the impunity which surrounds these groups: “We demand that order is reestablished and the safety of our families and of thousands of citizens of Michoacán is guaranteed, as should also be assured the certainty of our investments in the state, which are the result of the honest work and effort of several generations and that contribute to the creation of employment opportunities for thousands of families”.

In the letter addressed to the State and Federal governments, they added: “Those of us who sign this letter have not abandoned our state because we believe that it is still possible to rescue it through the coordinated action of the Federal Government and thus the Rule of Law can be restored and allow government institutions to recover their strength”.
