The protesters are also demanding the resignation of the doctor Benjamín Mayoral Mendoza, who they say has formed a group that confronts and intimidates other workers.

According to one of the members of the hospital's union, Susana Espina, the hospital is facing a crisis with sub par medical attention, a shortage in medicine and poor infrastructure, which the current director, who's held that position since October 2014, has done nothing to address.

The protesters also say the director has outsourced services to three private hospitals without establishing any transparency measures, and say that the each hospital receives over 20,000 dollars monthly for such services. They announced that they will hold a massive demonstration with different union members this Sunday.
