Six soldiers were killed after an attack on an army convoy in Culiacán, Sinaloa, where an armed commando rescued a prisoner.

Four soldiers died in the place, while two others died in the hospital.

According to first reports, the army convoy and the ambulance, where a prison inmate was receiving medical attention, were ambushed at 3:05 am by an armed group.

State authorities said that eight soldiers and a member of the ambulance crew are still in the hospital, and their condition is reported to be critical.

The gunmen were traveling in eight luxury SUVs, they carried Barrett rifles and grenades, with which they attacked the soldiers who repelled the attack.

The identity of the rescued prisoner remains unknown so far.
