Two federal migration agents were injured after being attacked by members of a criminal group that attempted to kidnap 25 migrants who were detained at the time by the migration authorities for human trafficking purposes.
The National Institute of Migration (INM) reports that the attack took place in Santiago Ixtaltepec, Oaxaca on Monday, September 26, while the agents were conducting a Control and Verification Raid in the area.
The agents say they were stopped by five alleged criminals, each of who was traveling on motorcycle, who then proceeded to fire gunshots at them in an attempt to kidnap the 25 detained foreigners from different nationalities.
Two agents were injured, one was shot in the arm and the other was struck with a gun on the head. They were then rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
