Mexico pushes forward concrete actions to address migrant movements: EPN

The Mexican president is pushing forward 7 concrete actions to address the large movements of refugees and migrants.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto urged the international community to show solidarity towards refugees and to nurture their integration to the communities of arrival.

Consequently, president Peña announced that Mexico is pushing forward seven concrete actions that aim to address the large movements of refugees and migrants, as follows:

1. Strengthen the dialogue with authorities from the United States of America, Canada and Central American countries.

2. Promote the socioeconomic inclusion of those who are acknowledged as refugees seeking asylum.

3.Strengthen the eligibility procedures based on international standards.

4.Reinforce the presence of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (COMAR) in places where there is a larger number of applications registered.

5.Drive alternatives to avoid the administrative detention of the refugees seeking asylum, specially that of children.

6.Informative campaigns to spread the right to seek asylum, with the support of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and non-profit organizations.

7.Enforce protocols that identify the need for the international protection of children and teenagers.
