Family members of María Villar are waiting to resolve certain bureaucratic formalities before repatriating the remains of the niece of Angel María Villar, head of Spain's soccer federation, who was kidnapped and murdered in Mexico, a violent act that has tarnished the country's already negative image that it has abroad.
A source from the Attorney General of the State of Mexico (PGJEM), which neighbors Mexico's capital and is where her remains were found last Thursday, said that the victim's family members retrieved her remains from the forensics morgue after being identified by her husband in the hopes of sending her back to Madrid today.
However, our sources informed us that repatriation to Spain “is not going to happen today” because “several formalities must be carried out” with “Mexican airport and sanitary authorities.”
Our sources added that Villar's family members currently have the coffin in "a temporary place, such as a chapel or funeral home," and they have asked for "a little privacy."
The body of the 39 year-old Spanish woman, who worked as a Consultant for IBM México, was found last Thursday in a small stream, with her hands and feet tied and a bag over her head that caused her to asphyxiate in a small community called Mirasol in the Santiago Tianguistenco municipality.
If all formalities are resolved by today, Villar's repatriation should take place on Thursday on a direct flight from Mexico City to Madrid.
