The head of the Green Party at the Chamber of Representatives, Jesús Sesma, called for better veterinary controls and an end of the excessive confidence in the treatment of zoo animals after the death of the only male gorilla in the country.

Sesma expressed regret for the death last Wednesday of the gorilla, named Bantú, and called for an improvement in the care of the animals at the Chapultepec Zoo, in order to avoid suspicions about the use of anesthetics or the proper protocols for their transportation.

There are only around 200 gorillas left in the world.
