Heriberto Zazueta Godoy, an ally of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, was arrested today by Interpol in Mexico City, sources said to EL UNIVERSAL.
In May 2014 the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the designation of Zazueta for his material support narcotics trafficking activities of the Sinaloa Cartel and Ismael Zambada García. The U.S. government offered a US$5 million reward for information leading to his capture.
In February 2014 Zazueta was indicted on drug trafficking and money laundering charges in the Northern District of Illinois, along with Zambada. The indictment identifies Zazueta as a cell leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Zazueta successfully transported significant amounts of cocaine destined for the United States. In March 2007, a 19-ton shipment of cocaine on the M/V Gatun that he helped to coordinate was seized in international waters off the coast of Panama.
