Donald Trump promised to become the next president of the United States after being confirmed as the nominee for the Republican Party at its national convention in Cleveland.

Trump, 70, appeared on an enormous TV screen to address the convention.

"Together we've achieved historic results ... But we have to go all the way. I'm so proud to be your nominee. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you on Thursday (when the convention officially ends) It's an honor to run on the ticket with Governor Mike Pence," said Trump.

Trump has been chosen by the delegates of the great 50 states and territories to become the nominee of the Republican Party to the U.S. presidency.

"Such a great honor to be the Republican Nominee for President of the United States. I will work hard and never let you down! AMERICA FIRST!", Trump wrote on Twitter following the roll call vote.
