President of Italy Sergio Mattarella pays a state visit to Mexico from July 1 to July 6, the first visit made by a head of the Italian State in the last 20 years.
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto extended an invitation to president Mattarella in June 2015, during Peña's official visit to Italy.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said that this visit reflects the positive political relation developed between the two countries, which has strengthened economic and cooperation ties.
Sergio Mattarella will meet on Monday with President Enrique Peña Nieto to discuss bilateral agenda issues, such as economic, cultural, educational and cooperative ties.
President Mattarella will also hold talks with the head of Mexico City government, Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa.
