Miguel Ángel Mancera, Mexico City mayor, announced that minibuses (known as microbuses in Spanish) will be gradually taken off the streets.

He explained that those who request to renew their permits will have to opt for less polluting alternatives and that no new concessions will be given for such vehicles.

Mancera added that the renewal of three “transport corridors” will take 1,000 minibuses off the streets.
