The Mexican Embassy in Ireland said that on June 13, the first direct charter flight from Dublin to Cancun will be flown by Falcon Holidays and Thompson of the TUI Group.
In a press release, the Mexican Embassy said that in the first stage, the flight will take place once a week for six weeks, using Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
According to the Mexican Tourism Promotion Council (CPTM), more than 24,000 Irish tourists came to Mexico in 2015, a 10.6 percent increase over the previous year.
The Embassy said that in Ireland, per capita travel to Mexico is one of the highest in Europe, higher than Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy.
Cancun is not the only attractive tourist destination in Mexico; Playa del Carmen, la Riviera Maya, Cozumel, Chichén-Itzá, Uxmal and Mexico City are also popular. Travel to Mexico is also important for its connection with the United States, Central America, and South America.
The new flights will be attractive not only for tourists looking for beaches, sun, good food and architectural treasures, but also for businesspeople.
The Embassy recognized the efforts of the CPTM in the project, and is convinced that the flight has the potential to become a regular route.
