The White House says the leaders of the United States, Canada and Mexico will pledge this week to rely on renewable energy to generate 50 percent of North America's electrical power by 2025.
That's a big jump from last year's 37 percent level. But Brian Deese, senior adviser to the president says it's doable through greater efficiency and reliance on solar, wind and other clean energy sources.
Obama will be meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada and President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico during Wednesday's North American Leaders' Summit in Ottawa.
Efforts to curb global warming will be a big part of the agenda. Deese says all three countries already have put into place policies that should help reach the target.
