The Enviromental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) imposed extraordinary measures in response to the pollution crisis in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.

The CAMe reported in a press release that due to a high-pressure system in the central area of the country, accompanied by high temperatures and solar radiations, the dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere has been stopped and this afternoon the area presented up to 156 points of pollution according to the local measuring scale.

It is also expected that the conditions for the dispersion of pollutants continue to be non-favorable during next week.

Therefore, the "Hoy No Circula" program, which limits the used of conventional vehicles in the Valley of Mexico, will extend itself to four groups. The number based system will stop the driving of vehicles with license plates ending in three, four, nine and zero, as well non-numbered plates and cars with their license numbers still being processed.

Also, motorcycles, marketing vehicles, cargo trucks, and vehicles with license plates from other countries or states outside the CAMe area will not be allowed to be used in the Valley of Mexico.

Gas stations without an emissions recycling system will also be closed.

The plan extends to the local industry, particularly concrete, pharma, chemical, electricity and oil companies, which will have to cut down their pollutant emissions down by at least 30%.

Also, the agency recommends children, older people and people with respiratory conditions to remain indoors between 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. and avoid outdoor activities during that time period.
