Diego Reyna, a Mexican-Canadian construction worker labouring on the Trump Tower being built in Vancouver decided to hang a Mexican flag on top of the unfinished building as a way to protest for the declarations of the Republican hopeful regarding Latinos.
Reyna hung the flag last weekend, according local media, and later published a picture on social networks.
The flag was removed last Sunday from the 63 floor of the building, where Reyna works with the steel elements of the structure.
“I put a Mexican flag on the roof of the Trump Tower in Vancouver, just to show that he is benefiting from us and that we are working hard on his projects and that we are not all criminals,” Reyna said in an interview with local media Sunday.
Reyna is originally from Tuxtla Gutiérrez and moved to Canada in 2011.
He said that he had been planning a protest for some time because he didn't want to have Trump's positions regarding Mexicans to take hold in Canada, which according to him is a more tolerant society than the United States.
“The comments Trump has made about us, did not stop us from doing the high-quality work we have always done, in our home country or when we migrate to the US/Canada,” Reyna said on social networks.
Donald Trump, who wants to become the Republican candidate for the US presidency, has said that Mexican immigrants in general are nothing more than criminals and drug dealers.
He also promised that, if elected in the elections of November 8, he will build a wall in the border with Mexico, to keep immigrants from entering the U.S.
His positions have generated a negative reaction from the Hispanic community in the U.S. and the Latin American countries.
