The just ratified new Ambassador of Mexico to Cuba and former governor of Coahuila, Enrique Martínez y Martínez, is recovering from the bite of a recluse spider, whose venom can be fatal.

Martínez y Martínez, who will present his credentials to the Government of the Caribbean country in the next few days, was in Monclova last Wednesday on a visit to his friend Alonso Villarreal de los Santos, President of the Union of Business Organizations of the Center of the State of Coahuila (UOECEC), when he was bitten.

"My dad is doing well", said his son Enrique Martínez y Morales. He added that his father was bitten near the elbow.

He was immediately taken to a doctor, who applied the right treatment.

The recluse, known as "violinist" in Mexico, usually hides in cracks and corners and it is considered the most dangerous of the genus Loxosceles spiders, because its venom can kill a human being.
