The Office of the Attorney General (PGR), through Assistant Attorney for Human Rights Eber Omar Betanzos, recognized the contributions of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) for its assistance in the investigation of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.

In a message to media, Betanzos endorsed the commitment to the victims of the events from September 26 and 27, 2014, in the municipality of Iguala.

"The families of the students and the federal government are on the same side and work with the same goal, which is to determine what happened with the youngsters and punish every one of those responsible," he said.

During the press conference, the PGR expressed its appreciation and gratitude to the experts.

"The Mexican State has provided the GIEI at all times with the facilities required for their work," which has been fulfilled at least 85%, with the rest in the process of being implemented.

He reiterated that Mexican law determines that questioning anybody, including members of the military, can only be achieved under the Public Ministry of the Federation. That means that to "allow the interviews in the terms sought by the GIEI violated due process".

Betanzos added that the questionnaire that the GIEI wished to present to suspects and possible witnesses during investigations, which was presented during their report on the case, will be assessed by the Public Ministry.
