José Luis Montenegro, reporter of The Guardian who interviewed Rosa Isela Guzmán Ortiz, the alleged daughter of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, said on his Facebook profile that Rosa Isela is being forced to recant her statements.
As part of the public post he shared the audio of his phone call with Rosa Isela.
In an interview with Adela Micha, Montenegro said earlier that Rosa Isela "fears the consequences of her statements."
In the morning Rosa Isela told Adela Micha that the British newspaper had defamed her.
"I think she is afraid. When she contacted me, she was emboldened. But now that (her father) was recaptured she is making these statements," Montenegro said in the interview.
He also rejected that the newspaper published lies and said that he can prove everything Rosa Isela said. "All calls were recorded and I also have the audio of our face to face meeting,” the reporter added.
He explained that the interview with Rosa Isela took place in July 2015, but The Guardian did not publish the text until now because they needed to verify some data and that The Guardian will publish in the next days that Rosa Isela spent New Year's Eve with his father, and not Lucero Sánchez, a former legislator whose immunity was withdrawn.
Montenegro also said that one of Guzmán's lawyers, José Refugio Rodríguez, wants to have him extradited, but Juan Pablo Badillo doesn't.
