According to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred), the monitoring system of Popocatépetl volcano registered 179 long-period events and four explosions during the last 24 hours. 

The most important explosions occurred yesterday at 4:40pm, generating a 3.5 km-high ash column and today at 4:27am, generating a 2 km-high ash column.

Also, two volcano-tectonic earthquakes were recorded, the first one occurred yesterday at 10:55 am, the magnitude of the event was Mc: 2.0 and the hypocenter was located 6 km depth. The second occurred today at 6:12 am, the magnitude of the event was Mc: 1.8 and the hypocenter was located 4.2 km depth.

Additionally, 30 minutes of harmonic tremor were recorded.

Due to ashfall, the International Airport of Puebla was closed.

During this morning, a continuous emission of steam and gas heading to the southeast has been observed.
