The Environmental Commission of the Megalopoli (CAMe) reported that due to high concentrations of ozone, the Phase One of the Environmental Contingency system has been activated, meaning restrictions on the use of vehicles in Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

The contingency has not been activated since 2002.

The authorities recommended limits to outdoor activities on all levels of the school system.

The contingency was declared at 4:00 p.m. today, due to the extreme atmospheric stability associated with a high-pressure system that has affected the central region of the country during the last three days, along with the intense solar radiation in the area.

The highest concentrations of ozone were recorded in the southern district of Cuajimalpa, with 203 points.
