A woman has testified that a former boyfriend who's accused of raping and kidnapping her teenage daughter started to show a preference for the girl and began buying her clothing and shoes soon after she arrived in California from Mexico.
The woman took the stand Tuesday in the trial of 42-year-old Isidro García, who's charged with abducting her 15-year-old daughter in 2004. García says the girl ran away with him willingly.
Authorities say the girl stayed with García for a decade, married him and bore his child under a fake name. They say García told her she would be arrested and deported if she left.
She went to police in 2014 after reconnecting with family on social media.
The mother testified that she and García would fight often after her two older daughters arrived from Mexico.
