UN condemns Mexico mayor’s murder

The authorities suspect a drug cartel is involved in the killing.

The agencies for human and women rights of the United Nations condemned the murder of a Mexican mayor killed one day after she was sworn to office.


The agencies expressed that the killing of 33-year-old Gisela Mota, mayor of Temixco, represents a “grave crime” and “disrupts the political rights of women” in Mexico.


The agencies also demanded justice and a full investigation on the crime,

The authorities in the state of Morelos suspect that the drug cartel known as Los Rojos is behind the murder orchestrated last Saturday because Mota supported a plan to unify the police forces into a single command structure for the state and municipal level.


Two of the suspects were killed and three others have been detained.
