Kate sought legal advice when she was contacted by El Chapo

"She never meant to disrespect anyone, all she wanted to do was to show a different perspective. This was for a film, a screenplay, not for an interview," her sister Verónica del Castillo explained.

Verónica del Castillo, sister of Kate del Castillo, said her sister sought legal advice when she was contacted by the lawyers of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, leader of the Sinaloa cartel.

"The first thing Kate did when she was contacted was seeking legal advice in order to avoid irregularities and wrongdoings," Verónica said to "Ventaneando" TV show.

"She never meant to disrespect anyone, all she wanted to do was to show a different perspective. This was for a film, a screenplay, not for an interview," the journalist explained.

Verónica added that she does not know if her sister will go ahead with El Chapo's film or if she owns the rights to do it.
