The Office of the Attorney General (PGR) began an investigation of the possible theft of fuel from a pipeline in San Juan del Río, Querétaro, which was in the midst of an explosion.
The investigation comes after the municipal police of San Juan del Río reported a smell of gas coming out of a building in the community of Barrio de la Cruz.
As a result, it requested the support of the emergency services to the area, just before an explosion caused a fire that engulfed the area. A local police officer and three firefighters were injured, and some of their vehicles were damaged.
The federal authorities are working in coordination with the municipal government and are in contact with state company Petróleos Mexicanos.
According to reports, some tank trucks had been distributing the fuel in a clandestine fashion, using gas stolen from the pipeline.
