The former president of the Mexican ruling party, Humberto Moreira, was released without a bail by order of Spanish judge Santiago Pedraz after hearing his statements and those of his lawyer, Manuel Ollé, during a hearing held at the National Audience in Madrid.

Moreira is held at the Soto del Real prison, 25 miles away from Madrid, where he is being held for corruption and money laundering.

In order to keep Moreira from leaving the country, the judge ordered him to surrender his passport. Now, the Spanish prosecutor has between three and five days to appeal against his release.

Ollé argues that his client "has neither bleached money nor has any relationship" with the cartel of Los Zetas, and now that he has learned of his release is "very happy".

According to the judge order, to which EL UNIVERSAL had access, "there is no basis to the money-laundering accusations" against Moreira, who had been under telephonic wiretapping since 2013, when he was doing a masters in Communications and Education at the University of Barcelona.

Also, according to the order, his money transfers for 200,000 euros on 2013 are not related to crime activities or money laundering.
