Mexican actress Kate del Castillo was summoned to testify for her alleged links with drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, Attorney General Arely Gómez said.
In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL, the prosecutor said that since the actress is in the United States, she could testify before the federal Public Prosecutor's Office at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles.
EL UNIVERSAL published today a conversation between De Castillo and the lawyer of the recaptured leader of the Sinaloa cartel.
According to the conversation, Kate del Castillo liked the idea that "El Chapo" invested in launching tequila Honor del Castillo, produced by the company Tequila Honor LLC in partnership with Feliciano Vivanco y Asociados.
"It would be great (divino)," said the actress when Andrés Granados Flores, lawyer of El Chapo, suggested inviting Guzmán to her business.
The conversation took place on April 15, 2015 via text messages, eight months after the actress and Granados started talking.
After the messages exchanged between Del Castillo Negrete and Granados Flores, the Attorney General's Office began investigating whether "El Chapo" Guzmán had business relations with the actress.
The actress met with Guzmán in person in October 2015 in the mountains of Sinaloa. El Chapo was recaptured on January 8, 2016 in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
