77% of Mexicans think “El Chapo” will escape again: survey

A telephone survey conducted by EL UNIVERSAL revealed that 54% are in favor of extraditing the head of the Sinaloa cartel to the U.S.

Most Mexicans (54%) are in favor of extraditing Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán to the United States, according to a telephone survey conducted by EL UNIVERSAL on January 11 and 12, while 37% said they were against.

In February 2014, when the leader of the Sinaloa cartel was captured for the first time, 46% thought he should be extradited while 41% had the opposite opinion.

Also, 40% of the participants think that the Navy was responsible for his capture, compared to 18% who attribute the achievement to the federal government, 9% to the Army and 5% to Federal Police.

About the possibility of El Chapo escaping from prison again, 77% think that he will do it while 17% said he will remain behind bars. Moreover, 41% think that the person that was captured was indeed Guzmán, while 40% think that he is another person.

About his links with Kate del Castillo 58% said that the Mexican actress should not be sanctioned over her dealings with Guzmán, while 29% thinks she should be held accountable. Also, 63% of the participants consider that it is necessary that she clarifies the subject, while 32% does not consider it necessary.

The survey, conducted among 800 participants in the 32 Mexican states, has a margin of error of 5%.
